SUMMARY -

Heiress. Debutant. Murderer. A new generation of heroines has arrived.

Edinburgh, Scotland, 1844
Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined for a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery killed her mother.

Now it’s the 1844 winter season and Aileana slaughters faeries in secret, in between the endless round of parties, tea and balls. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, she sheds her aristocratic facade every night to go hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.

But the balance between high society and her private war is a delicate one, and as the fae infiltrate the ballroom and Aileana’s father returns home, she has decisions to make. How much is she willing to lose – and just how far will Aileana go for revenge?

The Review.
I am a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Rude. Fuck this book. And its ending.
What the fuck
no.
I can't.
Why.

I'M SO ENRAGED RIGHT NOW. JUST AS ENRAGED AS AILEANA LIKE WHAT THE HELL. YOU CAN'T END IT LIKE THAT. NO FAIR. THANKS FOR THE KICK IN THE FACE, MS. MAY.

Excuse me while I take a breather.

Now that I finished killing about a dozen faeries, here's my real review.

The Falconer is an engaging story with a character that I loved immediately. Much like myself, Aileana is quick to anger and has to do whatever it takes to keep her cool around the public. I didn't care much for Catherine or Gavin, but also immediately fell in love with Derrick. His nature, regardless of the tales about faeries being "evil," is so caring and carefree. Kiaran, on the other, hand, is a pain in my ass, which is why I loved him. I'm not one for the whole "bad boy" character, but I do love characters that challenge the MC (and me, since I AM the MC when reading). With each battle, I had the sudden feeling that he shouldn't be trusted, but that just came from his personality -- or lack thereof when it came to his relationship with Aileana.

I really wanted to put the book down to do other life things, but I found myself constantly reaching for the book and the next thing I knew, I was sucked back into it. This book was addicting, throwing you into action and never letting go, while deliberately toying with your emotions, making you feel everything at once. The action and tension as the climax came kept building... and that's where the rage came in. It built to the point where there was just no stopping -- it was all or nothing, but no, Ms. May punched us all in the face in the heat of the moment and told us to wait. Nothing like a good face-punch of a cliffhanger to leave me wanting more... and raging hardcore.
